A twenty-four-kilometre loop, almost flat, that leaves Gijón's Plaza Mayor on the cycle lane and picks up the greenway of the old mining railway to La Camocha, where the mine's headframe still stands.
The way back follows paths by the water: the Llantones river, the Aliseda Pantanosa —a flooded alder wood— and the Piles river path, which comes out at San Lorenzo beach. From there, along the promenade, back to Cimadevilla.
A little history
La Camocha was for decades Gijón's great coal mine, and the greenway follows its old mining railway.

Getting there
Without a car
Bus to Oviedo and the ALSA coach to Gijón. The route starts and ends at the Plaza Mayor, a short walk from the bus station.
By car
Half an hour from the house. Better to park in Gijón and start at the Plaza Mayor, like the official route.
Before you go
- There are rental shops in Gijón, and the city has a municipal e-bike scheme, Gijón Bici: check beforehand whether visitors can hire one for a day.
- You cross several tracks and roads, and there is a tunnel under the Carretera Carbonera.
- It finishes at San Lorenzo: you can end with a swim.
