The church of the same palace complex as Santa María del Naranco, a short walk away. Only part of the original building survives today, and that part is among the most refined of Asturian pre-Romanesque.
The window lattices and the reliefs on the jambs of the doorway — unusual scenes of acrobats and folding — are among the finest stone carving of the ninth century. It is visited together with Santa María, on the same guided tour.
A little history
Consecrated around the year 848 as the palace church of Ramiro I. A partial collapse destroyed the east end and part of the nave, and what can be seen today is roughly a third of the original building. World Heritage Site as part of the Monuments of Oviedo and the Kingdom of the Asturias.
